John Peter Whiffen

John Peter Whiffen of Tracadie Cross and formerly Rockland MA died peacefully at home on May 11 with his best friend and spouse of 55 years by his side. John was born in 1942 in Dorchester MA where he lived until marrying Georgina Shirley Lacey and settling in Rockland MA.
John is survived by special nieces Katheen Whiffen and Brenda (Michael) Douglas, In-Laws: Joe (Carol, diseased) Lacey, Mary (Bud) Mullen, Pat (Tom) Atkins, Fr. John Lacey, Josephine (Charlie) Power, Freda (Rob) Tebbutt and his beloved canine friend, Riley as well as many other nieces and nephews in the U.S and P.E.I. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Herb (Eileen), sister Noreen Williams, in laws Pat and Rita Lacey and Vince (Anna Murphy) Lacey.
John rests at the Hennesey/Cutcliffe Funeral Home for visitation on Wednesday, May 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. His Funeral will be celebrated at St. Bonaventure’s Church Tracadie Cross on Thursday, May 16 at 10:30 a.m. with burial later in the parish cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to P.E.I. Palliative Home Care Program or St. Bonaventure’s Cemetery Fund.
John had a long career in the printing industry. He was a fourth degree Knight of Colombus and served that community as a bar tender and bingo caller for many years in making funds to support charitable services. John was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and shared his talent with many, especially with Irish music lovers. He enjoyed golf and was a member of Stanhope golf course for many years. John, the city boy, would become exposed to the Lacey farm life in Tracadie Cross and endured many jokes as he joined in to help with the farm tasks. For the last twenty years John and Georgina enjoyed the long P.E.I. summer months in their home with the treasured view of Tracadie Bay and moved permanently to P.E.I. in 2022.
