Brenda Marie MacDonald

1955-2024

Brenda Marie MacDonald

Brenda Marie MacDonald, a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away suddenly on March 15, 2024, at 68, with her daughter Becky by her side. Brenda left behind a legacy of love, kindness, and adventure that will be remembered by all who knew her.

Born on September 2, 1955, in Dorchester, Massachusetts, Brenda was the daughter of Chester and Mary MacDonald. She grew up as a strong, independent, and compassionate woman with the ability to make people feel seen and cared for. Her warm curiosity and non-judgmental nature were a testament to her character, and she lived her life with a courageous and open heart.

Brenda's zest for life was evident in her love of adventure, passion for volunteering, and bold sense of style. She embraced every opportunity that came her way with joy and wonder and inspired others to do the same. Her bellowing laugh, wild hair, unique fashion sense, and creative spirit were just a few of the many things that made Brenda genuinely unforgettable.

Throughout her life, Brenda dedicated herself to helping others. Her light and wisdom helped many people find the light in themselves again. Brenda earned her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology from Assumption University in Massachusetts and used it well. She was an experienced mental health therapist who created programs that advocated for the vulnerable, fostered empathy, and encouraged kindness. Brenda also volunteered for various organizations, such as Farmers Helping Farmers, The Village Feast, and the Charlottetown Boys and Girls Club. In addition, she was a facilitator for Roots of Empathy and gave people tools to help them find themselves again. Brenda believed in giving back to her community and making a difference in the world.

Those who knew Brenda knew about her love of the sea. She cherished its beauty, found solace, and appreciated its changing tides, just like in life. She was always there for her friends, families, and patients. Without fail, she always showed up for them with consideration, the best hugs, delicious food, and handmade gifts.

Brenda is survived by her daughter Becky Coleman, brother John MacDonald (Cindy), and nieces and nephews Sherrie Goldstein (Jason), Ginelle Jacobs (Daniel), Stephen MacDonald (Jessica), and Nick MacDonald. She was the proud "Gr-auntie" of Harper and Ben Goldstein, Callen and Graham Jacobs, as well as Finn and Maren MacDonald. Brenda’s family extended to the beloved MacIssac family and countless friends, as well as her sweet pups Homer and Maybelle. Brenda was predeceased by her parents, Chester and Mary MacDonald, younger sister Mary Lou, and beloved Maine Coon cats Weeble and Mr.Wiggins.

A wake will be held on Wednesday, March 20, from 4-7 pm at Hennessey Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service on Thursday, March 21, at 10:30 am at Assumption Parish in Stratford.

In lieu of flowers, Brenda's family requests that donations be made in her honor to the Canadian Mental Health Association of PEI or Roots of Empathy. Brenda's memory and the impact of her kindness will live on through the many lives she touched, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Remember that "Kindness Matters" and to act with "Curiosity, Not Judgement". The wisdom she shared and the goodness she fostered will make the world a better place.
