Eleanor Marie Jay (nee Walsh)

1933-2023

Eleanor Marie Jay (nee Walsh)

With sadness we announce the passing of Eleanor Jay (nee Walsh) on Friday, April 21st at The Mount Community Care Home.  Survived by her children Lorna (Blythe Murray), Michael (Debbie Stead), Debra (Bill Wellner), Bill Jr. (Maria MacDonald) and Grant (Joanne),  her siblings Emily, Joe, Peter and Doris as well as seven grandchildren of whom she was immensely proud – Nicole and Kiel Vesey, and Liam, Isaac, Kerry, Jaylene and Cody Jay.   Predeceased by her beloved husband William, her parents Earl and Agnes (Donahue), and brothers Bernard (Ellen) and John (Mary Lou).

At the tender age of 17, she left the family farm in Burnt Point and headed for the big city.  It wasn’t long before she caught the eye of a tall, skinny kid from Euston Street.  A romance ensued and was soon  followed by a proposal of marriage, a wedding in Georgetown and the beginning of a wonderful life together that would last almost seven decades.  A devoted wife and best mother ever to her five children, unconditional love for and commitment to family would define her.  When she lost  her partner late in 2021, her heart was broken.  She was quite simply unable to process the loss.  Now they are together.

To the nursing staff at the Carriage House who cared for Mom these past several months, the family extends a sincere "thank you".

Remains entrusted to the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home. No visitation by family request. If so desired memorial contributions may be made to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation. Online condolences can be made at www.islandowned.ca
