Leonard and Wendy Batten
On June 12, 2020 the passing of Wendy Batten, age 63, occurred peacefully at the Provincial Palliative Care unit, Charlottetown. Daughter of the late Don and Pauline Mitchell of Sheffield, NB. Wendy is the wife of Leonard Batten. She is survived by her daughter Leona Batten, brother Michael Mitchell, and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Sandra Ferguson.
Wendy will always be remembered by her family for her big heart, smiling face and fun loving positive attitude. Her daughter is so grateful to have had such a loving mother all her life. Wendy enjoyed meeting new friends through the deaf community, painting craft projects with her husband and volunteering teaching sign language.
On March 25, 2021 the passing of Leonard Donald Batten, age
65 with esophageal cancer, occurred peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth
Hospital, Charlottetown.
Son of the late Arthur and
Isabelle Batten of Clarkes Beach, Newfoundland. Leonard is predeceased
by his wife Wendy Batten and is survived by his daughter Leona Batten,
sisters Brenda Batten, Marilyn Periera, Beverly Russell, Nancy Delaney
, Jocelyn Snelgrove, brothers Ivan, Herb, and Rodney Batten and nieces
Amanda Batten, nephews Phillip Snelgrove, Jeremy Delaney and Matthew
Batten.
Growing up in Clarkes Beach Leonard enjoyed fishing, playing hockey, and jumping around on icebergs. Leonard enjoyed his time building carpentry for work and at his home, collaborating frequently with his late wife on fun outdoor projects. Leonard was a skilled dart player and curler throughout his life, recently he has thoroughly enjoyed the deaf darts tournaments. He will be greatly missed by his family and daughter who has learned many construction and building tips from him. He was a loving father who always encouraged, empowered and strengthened.
A celebration of Wendy and Leonard’s life will be held at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 29th at 3:00 p.m and will be available for viewing via live stream by clicking on the icon to the left of this obituary
