Marie Estelle Hooper (nee McQuaid)

1933-2017

Marie Estelle Hooper (nee McQuaid)

Marie (Mom,Nanny) passed away suddenly on November 15th after a brief illness while traveling with and visiting, family in St Albert, Alberta. She has joined many family and friends who were fortunate to meet and know her during her 84 years and leaves many behind who wish she could have stayed with us a little longer.

Marie is survived by her sister Willina Killeen (Pat), loving children Wayne, David, (Paula), Paula Mullen, Eric (Bernie), Karen(Dave Sheehan), Sonya( Ben Legault) and 16 grandchildren; Joshua(Rosey), Whitney (Neil), Jeremy, Jenna (Santana), Tanya, Sasha, Trish, Becky (Kev), Liam, Jon (Jill), Courtney, Randell (Irish), Logan (Sam), Kate (Kaelan), Sidney, Alysha and 15 great grandchildren; Jacob, Camara, Maxx, Malcolm, Rowan, Keegan, Aden, Reilly, Delaney, Mackenzey, Figgy, Brecken, Gwen, Jordan, Will, as well as the many Boston Hoopers.

Marie is preceded by her parents, Elmer McQuaid and Irene Coady, stepmother Eileen Morrisey, husband and father to their 6 children, Reginald Hooper, her 2nd husband George MacDonald, great-granddaughter Leah Satine Marie, and dear cousins George Hooper and Therese MacDonald.

Marie lived her full life in Bedford PEI raising her family and welcoming family, friends and neighbours from near and far. She was very active in the Island community and with her church, volunteering many hours of her time to local service clubs and organizations. She also shared her home for numerous family and community gatherings, her experiences and knowledge to support family and friends, and she was always ready with a word of encouragement, friendly advice or simply a listening ear. She loved being with people and unconditionally welcomed and loved everyone into her home and heart. Marie was always up for an adventure, big or small; dinner with the grand kids or getting behind the wheel of a motorhome to drive across the country. "Don't invite me if you don't want me," was one of her favorite expressions. She believed the house work can wait if there is something more fun to do. Marie’s hands made many batches of pickles and pies over the years; sewed creations from hemmed pants to community organization vests; played many winning hands of crib; and held the hands of dance partners. She was also the heart of a large and diverse family nurturing each one and the connections among them all.

Marie touched the lives of many people with her wit, humor, warmth and pragmatism and she will be greatly missed and always remembered by her family, friends and community. So here’s to a 29 hand and an endless dance floor for Marie!
