John Benjamin Young

1929-2017

John Benjamin Young
John Benjamin Young

Peacefully with his beloved wife Edith at his side, at the QEH, on Tuesday, September 19, 2017, John Benjamin Young stepped from time into eternity, to forever be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and father-in-law. Survived by daughters Anne (Jon) McLean, Charlottetown, Susan Rath, Paisley, ON; sons Paul (Tara) and Stephen (Cheryl), Charlottetown. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Rachel Rath (Jasper Munro ), Jonathan Rath (RaeAnne Schwandt) and great-grandson Finley Rath all of Ontario. He also leaves to mourn his siblings Leonard (Marion), Freddie, Shirley Jenkins, Fanny (Jim) O'Connor, Christine Cuddy, Alba (Marvin) MacLeod, Lillian (Errol) White, Marion (Emmerson) Murphy, and Georgina (David) London as well as special cousin Judy Bryenton. Predeceased by sister Louise, brothers Eddie, Gordon and Arthur.

John was born in Iris, PEI on August 15, 1929 to Nathan and Lillian Young but lived most of his young life with his aunt and uncle, Fanny and Harry Carr. As a young man, he joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served his country in Canada and in the Korean War. Upon his return from Korea, John met and married the love of his life, Edith O'Connor. He was a driving instructor in the army and then worked as a mechanic and welder before finally operating several Charlottetown service stations with Edith before his retirement.

John's greatest love was for the Lord, and he was a founding member of Calvary Temple in the 1950s. A dedicated man who worked hard at everything he did, John loved tinkering in the garage, fixing anything that broke, and coming to the aid of anyone in need. His favourite pastimes included trouncing everyone at games of Uno and Chinese checkers.

A special thanks to all the QEH staff who gave John such kind and compassionate care over the years.
