David Dargie Steeves

1937-2017

David Dargie Steeves

David Dargie Steeves, Charlottetown, passed away peacefully in his sleep Wednesday, May 3, 2017, 79 years.

Beloved husband to Linda (McCabe) Steeves; dear father of Kelly (Robert) Steeves and Michelle (Todd, deceased) Steeves-Wall; step father of Michael (Sherri) McCabe; loving grandfather of Chase Wall; brother of Sandra (George, deceased) Turner, Michael (Elena) Steeves, Catherine (Richard) Porter, Nancy Steeves, Ruth (David) Mather, and Alex (Shirley) Steeves; and uncle of many nephews and nieces.

David graduated from Hillsborough High and the New Brunswick Teachers’ College. After several jobs in New Brunswick, including a teaching position at Port Elgin Regional High School, David found his career as a training manager with the Federal Department of Manpower and Immigration in Charlottetown where he provided twenty-seven years of dedicated service before taking early retirement at the age of 56.

David was a natural athlete. He loved playing hockey and, later in life, learned to play golf. David loved traveling and watching curling and baseball with me. David liked to play online poker, was an avid bridge player, and was passionate about writing. He was well known in Charlottetown for his letters to the editor where he "covered the island like the dew," frequently writing daily about a variety of issues.

David was a devoted father and exceptionally proud grandfather. He delighted in all Chase’s accomplishments, but none more so than his academic achievements. David valued education and made sure Chase’s postsecondary education was fully funded by building an education savings plan starting when Chase was two.

David achieved many milestones in his long life but he and his family were extremely proud of his twenty-three years of sobriety.
