Mabel Margaret (nee Clark) McGowan

1923-2016

Mabel Margaret (nee Clark) McGowan

Peacefully at the Mount Continuing Care Community in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island on May 14, 2016, 2016 in her 93rd year.

Born on October 16th, 1923, Mabel was raised on a farm near Cornwall, Ontario, the youngest of seven, and decided at an early age to devote her life to the care of others. She graduated from the Cornwall General Hospital School of Nursing, rising to supervisor of Women’s Medical/Surgical within a few short years. In 1950, she married George Rodden McGowan, DVM. Mabel and George travelled the world, making many close friends, shared a number of adventurous ski trips in the Rockies, and played golf. Lots of golf! She still found time to be an active volunteer with many charitable organizations. Resident of Charlottetown since 2011, Mabel was predeceased by George (2009), her parents, and siblings.

She is survived by her children Rodden McGowan of Nagano, Japan (Keiko Suzuki), Virginia McGowan of Charlottetown, PEI (Ginny) (Richard Forsyth), Nancy Leinweber of Adelaide, Australia (Derek), and Jean McGowan-Jordan of Ottawa, Ontario (Scott); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Loved by all.

Visitation will be held 3 to 6 PM on Wednesday, May 18th, at Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home. Funeral service in the chapel at The Mount on Thursday, May 19th, at 10 AM. A Celebration of Life and internment will follow at a later date in Cornwall, Ontario. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, Alzheimer’s Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
