Michael Edward "Mike" Flanagan

 

Peacefully, with his family at his side, Mike died at the VG Hospital in Halifax on August 22, 2015, after a lengthy illness. Born in Charlottetown in 1949 to Ted and Doris (Herring), Mike attended St Dunstan's University, graduating in the first class of UPEI with a BA, and later, a BEd. He spent his career working with Correctional Services Canada, retiring as Deputy Warden of the Westmoreland Institution in 2010.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Rita Anne (Callaghan), son Sean (Cara), daughter Jill (Mason) Saunders, and grandchildren, Liam and Addy. Also survived by his sisters, Dr Barbara (John Rankin), Cathy, brother, Rob, brother-in-law, Frank (Dawn) Callaghan, sister-in-law, Cheryl (the late Dr Harry) Callaghan, and several nieces and nephews. Mike was happiest on the ski hills and on the water sailing with his family and friends.

Resting at the Hennessey Cutcliffe Charlottetown Funeral Home with visiting hours on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.. The funeral will be held on Thursday with funeral mass from the Church of the Most Holy Redeemer at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow in the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown. If so desired, donations may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital Foundation or the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
